'Empirical is the most exciting jazz band to come out of the UK' says Courtney Pine, and he's currently recording/producing the band's debut album, due for release in the Spring
Empirical is made up of five jazz stars of the future – four of them Tomorrow’s Warriors (the organisation founded in 1992 by double bassist Gary Crosby to nurture and develop talented young jazz musicians) graduates. Jay Phelps (trumpet), Nathaniel Facey (alto sax), Kit Downes (piano), Neil Charles (double bass), and Shane Forbes (drums) perform with astonishing musical maturity, confidence and a cohesiveness derived from many years of playing together. Empirical is dedicated to maintaining the roots of traditional modern jazz but has a definite finger on the pulse of the contemporary world.
